SHAFFIE
A newsletter from Tenaya.
SHAFFIE WAS A TAXI DRIVER I LOST IN SCUNTHORPE. Ex-worker at a can making factory, the kind of man who could have been on TV. I dropped my phone as he dropped me off, lost his contact details, rang the taxi company, posted internet appeals. Nothing nothing nothing. I went back to Scunthorpe to trespass on an old steel house with two local men, but the landlords confronted us, they slashed the van tyres. We didn’t know til we broke down at the roadside. So I ring for a taxi. And of all the breakdowns, at all the roadsides, in all of North Lincolnshire, he pulls into mine. Shaffie was a taxi driver I found in Scunthorpe 💕
I’ll send out an email of writing every few weeks, where I’ll talk about what I’ve been researching and experiencing, or thinking or gossiping about, as I work on my short story collection: Canada House. This newsletter is named after the real life taxi driver I met in 2016! Enjoy bbz X
